Some Background On This Series
This is the first part of an outstanding 16 Part Series Originally called "BETWEEN THE WARS"...which first aired in 1978 on PBS.
The late Eric Severied does an EXCEPTIONAL job narrating this program throughout.
(I have often wondered if this was the first project that he took on post retirement in 1977, as there is a scene in later episodes of him dressed in Winter clothing.)
I came across this series in the Winter of 1990/1991 when A & E ran the 1964 CBS "World War 1" and "Between The Wars" consecutively...later in 1995 I was able to access the entire series on VHS, with the original opening credits and music.
If you enjoy history...especially 1900-1940...this is perfect.

Elite education for a few bucks
I have been watching WW2 documenteries since I was a child. The BBC series World at War was iconic to my childhood. This is better. When you are through watching this you will be shocked that it was availible in 1978. Worth the money-rent it.
Excellant capsule review of how WWII inevitably developed from the conditions following the Versailles Treaty and the Roaring 20
This series is hosted by Eric Sevareid, that alone tells you it is well done. He was one of those reporters who set the standard for the golden age of journalism, an age which is sadly becoming only a memory as broadcasters devote less money to reporting and more to entertainment and use "reporting" to push private agendas. Sevareid had a gift for insightful analysis and in this time when we are faced with economic depression and possible wars in the Middle East and Asia it would be well to heed the lessons reveiwed in this series.
