Suits - Pilot

Elevating The Formula With Smarts, Sophistication, And Uncommon Wit
The courtroom drama has become such a staple of American television, it is impossible to imagine a program with a completely unique approach to the legal genre. Yet, you always hope a show can tweak the formula and give you something you haven't seen a hundred times previously. While USA Network's "Suits" certainly isn't revolutionary television in its casework, it has brought something quite unexpected to the defense table. Spending more time in the boardroom than in the courthouse, this remarkably engaging show has brought a sense of smarts and sophistication to the proceedings--and trust me, I haven't used the word sophistication to describe a basic cable TV show in some time. A lot of elements work just fine here, but there are two specific things that elevate this show to the next level. First, the dialogue is snappy, genuinely funny and filled with clever wordplay. Second, the two leads (Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams) have uncommonly good timing in serving up that dialogue...

Suits is brilliantly entertaining
The script, acting, and quality are all flawless, as far as television goes. If you're looking to be highly entertained, then look no further. The subtle humor, creative plot, and enjoyable dialogue entices the viewer more with each passing moment.

If you're into legal shows that include all aspects of human nature, including compassion, then Suits is for you.

Hopefully this show continues to have the opportunity to thrive; it has definitely drawn me in and I won't miss a second of it.

An Intelligent, Sparkling New Television Series
SUITS is smart, sassy, clever, sophisticated, timely and immensely entertaining! The new series debuted with a full 60 minute story that establishes the characters very solidly, opens pathways for many story lines, and boasts an exceptional cast of fine actors. Here is hoping it makes it as an ongoing series, especially since it is not yet another crime drama! Not that Criminal Mains, The Mentalist, Without A Trace will lose their place among the best show on television, but with all the spinoffs on the crime shows, the available choices have been dwindling lately.

Well, it's Season One. Having watched it many times over the years, I can say that certain episodes (Symbiosis, for instance) do not hold one's attention very well. On the other hand, other episodes (Justice, if you can believe it) really benefit from the HD upgrade, making them more appealing as a whole.

If you are somehow a new fan to the series, I still think you should buy this, with the proviso that things get markedly better even with Season Two, and certainly are totally cooking by Season Three. Season One is still a vital piece of TNG, introducing scads of characters and backstories. And there are still some superb episodes to be found (Encounter at Farpoint, Where No One Has Gone Before, Conspiracy, among others), and plenty of average shows, too.

But these reviews aren't for new fans, are they? The question is - is it worth spending $60 or more to buy something you already own? Oh, yes. Yes, yes, yes. Yes...

Over 200 customer reviews for a product that isn't released yet?
The policy of Amazon to "fold" reviews together for different variants of a product really sucks. How can there be over 200 customer reviews for a product that isn't released yet?

Because most of them are for the DVD release. But this is the BluRay Release and it's a whole different product! Based on what I've seen on the demo disk ("The Next Level") I assume this Season 1 set will be absolutely amazing, but... I can only guess it, because it has not been released yet!

Dear Amazon, please allow separate reviews for this product, because TNG on BluRay is a *completely different experience*! Even the less good episodes are getting better thanks to the spectacular space scenes, plus you'll feel like being part of the action because it's HD (and in correct colors, unlike the DVD release!).

Failed World Domination Attempts 101
Spun-off from Animaniacs, 'Pinky and the Brain' has a fantastic concept that constantly bears fruit - Two lab mice ("One is a genius, the other insane" in the words of the theme tune) are constantly thwarted in their attempts to take over the world. Like Wile E. Coyote before them, they seem to eventually lose sight of what they are trying to do and why, and just use more and more outlandish ruses to reach their target (Brain as the Country and Western singer is my favourite).

The concept itself may not have worked if the characters weren't so well written and performed. To my memory there was only ever three continuous characters in the show - Pinky, Brain and occasionally Snowball, a genius hamster and rival to Brain voiced by the late, great Roddy McDowell. With such reliance on a small cast (the rest of the characters featured - the humans - were different every week), the creators worked hard to get them to be well-rounded and likable (although they are essentially...

A must have collection for fans of all ages.
As a long time P&B fan I was thrilled to see the series finally coming to DVD. Many fans and would be purchasers have been concerned that this set is labeled as a "collection" of episodes instead of one or more complete "seasons". Don't worry! As has been noted in other reviews this set (Vol I) contains ALL of season 1 and most of season 2 (the last three episodes are missing) for a total of 22 episodes. Why did they do this?? I don't "know" for a fact but I'm sure it is so that they can release 3 volumes of approxiamtely equal size. The show had 65 episodes total. That means 3 volumes each with 22 episodes (OK, so one of the volumes will have 21 episodes - nitpick, why dontcha!). So if you are a fan of the show, cast away your concerns and pick up this first volume ASAP!

Easily one of the best shows not on TV
This show is great... it's only barely political which keeps it funny for everyone without being too overly insulting but edgy enough to show the faults our politicians have. It's funny, well cast and a show I hope to see stay. Very good job.

Christmas Party Sex Trap

So excited for the new season
I was so excited when I heard The Mindy Project started back up. I love not just Mindy, but all the characters on the show. That's a rare thing. I love Mindy's confidence and the humor between her and Danny. If you haven't watched, do it! The show is hilarious!

A comedy show girls can relate to!
Querky and fun, the Mindy Project is hilarious and is finally a show geared towards the female sense of humor. As Mindy struggles with dating, her weight and other aspects of daily life, her character never ceases to make me laugh.

A WHOLE NEW UNIVERSE OF INTELLIGENT LAUGHS!
In the cult tradition of SPARTACUS, the halls of every science department now echoes: "I AM SHELDON"!

Well into its third season, THE BIG BANG THEORY proved to be one of the most funny TV sitcoms ever aired. I had not laughed out loud this hard ever since the best days of FRASIER and SEINFELD - and BIG BANG is consistently brilliant!

Sheldon Cooper is unavoidably the king of the show - the massive black hole this Universe revolves around if you will. A child prodigy, now a 24 years old theoretical physicist PhD with absolutely no social skills or known sexual drive. Sheldon may be on the verge of unifying the fields but cannot drive a car to save his life or break a smile even remotely resembling that of a mere homo sapiens.

Lovable geeks
When I saw the premiere of this show, I laughed hysterically but thought, will it appeal to a broad audience? Clearly, it has. As time has gone on, the character development has been great, and the writing is consistently good. As a professional physicist, I am also intrigued by the accuracy of the science. I have recommended the show to many non-scientists, and most have become hooked. It is great to have the DVD with commercial-free episodes.

A Rare Bit of Entertainment for Geeks
I kept thinking that this show could not go on being funny, especially when Leonard and Penny finally began a real relationship. Surely it had jumped the shark at that point. But no, it is just as fresh and funny as it was at the beginning. I'm not much on rewatching shows for the most part, but I simply cannot tolerate commercials so I show my support by buying the DVDs. I can watch the shows at my leisure, when I want to, and I don't have to record and fast forward through the commercials. Highly recommended.

Bad Teeth

There better be a third season
Season two has more than met expectations, and the writers tweaked our noses a bit when the first half of the second season ended by stating on screen: TO BE CONTINUED, and then below those words: SORRY. So the second half looks like a kicker and the characters are becoming more intertwined and more team oriented. The bond between Nick and Monroe continues to strengthen. Particularly touching is when Monroe takes Nick in after Nick leaves the house he shares with Juliette. It's phenomenal, and heightens the greatest paradox on the show: a "Grimm" and a "Wessen" teaming up with total trust in one another. These two characters, and indeed the actors, have unbelievable chemistry between them. If you try to imagine casting two other actors in these roles, it's impossible.

Season two does not fail to entertain nor decrease nail biting in the least. Even I am poised on the edge of my seat wondering where all the plot lines will go. It's among the top three programs I've ever...

GRIMM AND GETTING GRIMMER
Grimm is one of the best shows I've watched in the last 61 years. Really!

The makers of this show have given us something very different and tremendously entertaining right from Season 1,episode 1 to Quills, the third show of this second season. The premise, that the Grimms have been after these creatures (that we all thought were imaginary) for centuries, is terrific and they have peopled the show with a fascinating main cast with really fine actors.

How great to have an entire group of people(?) that you can engage with and wonder about; their lives, backgrounds and loyalties. The Chief-of-Police is fascinating and mysterious. I am fond of Monroe, the big, bad wolf, or Blutbad, but have enjoyed the entire panoply of wonderful fairy-tale creatures.

I highly recommend that, if you're not already watching, you tune in and watch, and (like me) buy it; you'll want to watch these shows again.

Hate the new intro, love the second season
The new intro is like a bad version of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer intro about being "the chosen one." Other than that, the new season is STELLAR. I'm afraid I'll have a heart attack with every show. It's scary, it's awesome. You love the characters: Nick! Munroe! And Hank is going to be a revelation this season. The Juliet storyline (seriously, is her name supposed to point to star-crossed lovers?) is heart-breaking because Nick is such a lovable (and kick ass) character. This season, you can see that Nick OWNS being a Grimm like he never has before. It's amazing how he can balance being this clean-cut, good guy hero and at the same time be so fierce in battle.

Nostalgia
I loved watching this show as a kid, but I might enjoy watching it as an adult even more. The stories are often pretty creepy, but the wardrobe alone is enough to keep you laughing. Highly recommended for any kid of the '90s.

Early Dirty Exploits From America's Funniest And Filthiest Workingman
"Dirty Jobs: Season 1" is the complete first seasons of the hit show "Dirty Jobs" from the Discovery Channel. While the production has become a well-oiled machine since these episodes were shot, this set contains some of my all-time favorite episodes of the show. From chicken sexer to pest control (including the episode that gave Vexcon their media introduction,) and from roadkill cleaner to worm dung farmer, there is seemingly nothing that Mike Rowe won't do. Also on the list: Mike's first of many engagements with pigs. I always appreciate Rowe's sharp wit and keen sense of humor, but most of all I appreciate that he never condescends to anyone he meets regardless of their job or social status.

This is a great set, and while I wouldn't want to do any of these jobs myself, I'm glad there are people willing to do them, and I'm glad Mike Rowe opened their world up for everyone to see.

Final?!?
The final show aired Sunday night and we still don't have it here on Tuesday?!? (plus I've already had the winner spoiled for me...)

Great season
I love that they keep reinventing the season to keep it from getting stale. This season pitted veterans against their own family members. This made for interesting drama, twists, and turns.

shaky premise
It's always a bad idea to put new players in with returning favorites. Worse, the season begins by pitting them against each other. The twist, that these are their loved ones, falls away pretty quickly 'cause they never get to spend much time together. Not to say I didn't like it (I did). Just seems like they fell a little short this time.

Baby Mozart

The Ultimate Distraction DVD
My youngest son received this video as a gift. I was skeptical about how interesting this DVD would be - the videos are just various clips of toys and images of food, played over classical music (Mozart). After a few months, here's what I think:

Pros:
+ My youngest son is completely mesmerized by the video. I get a half hour of distraction to get chores done.
+ The music is pleasing for everyone in the house (my oldest son likes it too).
+ After a few months they still enjoy watching it.

Cons:
- Lacks any educational value.

The educational value thing bothered me, but DVDs are amazing for buying time. After researching on Amazon, I found and bought these videos to address that problem:

* Tiny Tutor: Early Language Development System: 4 very simple videos that cover letters, numbers, shapes and colors. My youngest LOVES these videos.

One of my friends recommended this video to us, but my husband and I weren't sure we wanted our son stuck in front of the TV. We did buy it to see what it was like and we were quite surprised! It was wonderful! The music is great and my 6 month old loves it. He sits in his excersaucer and spins around and laughs. He can't get enough of it. I like it too. It is very relaxing to watch. I would recommend "Baby Mozart".

Baby Mozart
Baby Mozart is WONDERFUL! We don't leave home without it. It's a simple yet very entertaining and creative video that displays toys (EVERY child's favorite thing) while playing Mozart music in the background. My daughter started watching it at 7 months. She's a little over a year now and I can still rely on Baby Mozart to keep her content for the entire half hour. I HIGHLY recommend it for anyone - not just children. It's very calming for adults, relaxing for the elderly and holds the interest of a child . . . all at the same time.

The Tudors

Dazzlingly beautiful, and a great invitation to study the period
Yes, there are inaccuracies, as others have pointed out here. This is a dramatization and this is elegant popular entertainment. As an armchair historian, in love with the stories of Henry VIII, I find it absolutely gripping. The acting is for the most part marvelous, and the idea of doing these great personages as compellingly attractive people is a brilliant one. I think there is plenty enough here to draw a person into good books about Henry and the English Reformation. One thing I do like very much is that Anne Boleyn is being presented as the complex woman she obviously was; and Catherine of Aragon has been presented with immense dignity and respect. But the reason I've signed on here to recommend this series is that I really think it will encourage serious study on the part of many as to what really went on when Henry broke with the Catholic Church, and when popular entertainment invites us to study, to learn more, as well as giving us delight, well, that is worth...

Flawed, but fun
I just finished watching the entire first season of "The Tudors." When the show first premiered on Showtime, I watched the pilot episode and never bothered to watch it again. I thought the show was visually appealing, but way too melodramatic and historically inaccurate for my taste. However, I recently read a fascinating book about Henry VIII, and I needed something else to satisfy my Tudor fixation. I watched all the episodes of "The Tudors" On Demand in less than a week, and I really enjoyed them.

In order to appreciate this program, you have to be willing to accept the show for what it is. Yes, the majority of the characters and plots in the show are based on real historical events, but this is a cable television series, and of course things are going to be changed to appeal to a larger commercial audience. As a result, all of the people in King Henry's court are much more attractive than they probably were in real life, and there are some major alterations to...

Inaccurate but wonderful show
Completely hooked after first episode. JRM, Henry Cavill, and Maria Kennedy give stellar performances. Absolutely love this show but there are a few inaccuracies, such as combining King Henry's sisters into one, Margaret, whom did not marry Brandon, but sister Mary did and bore his chldren.Henry Fitzroy dying at such a young age when he had a great deal to do with Anne Boleyn's trial was mind blowing. Do not watch this if you believe you are "learning" about the Tudors, it clearly deviates from the truth, but it is an amazing piece of fiction with a gorgeous cast!!!

Bzzzzzzzzz! [HD]

An amazing and unique show that ended too soon, but shall live on with the fans.
Pushing Daisies is an amazing show. It is unique and unlike anything else out there. It has the ability to inspire its fans and bring them together in mutual adoration of Bryan Fuller's genius. But ABC did not give the show the treatment it deserved, and now the show is gone, canceled before its time, with no air date in sight for the final three episodes.

I look forward to when the Season 2 DVD set is released, as it will afford the true fans of the show a chance for closure. We will finally get to see how Bryan Fuller intended the second season to end. We can finally get a small piece of the show and its heart back.

I can already say that this product deserves five stars, on the fact that it's amazing, and I have no doubt that this set will manage to hold on to the show's greatness.

I can't wait. :D

A Whimsical and Clever Show
I accidentally happened upon this television series and was instantly hooked. Even after I transfered overseas I purchased the entire first season I was so in love with the series. The characters, themes, set, and, well, just everything about it make it hard to resist, much like a guilty pleasure. There is tons of wonderful cinematography, witty quips, and thoughtful acting. The whole concept behind the show itself it simply clever. Once you start watching you find there are so many different and unique dynamics betweeen all the characters, amusing and heart warming alike. Plus, each episode's "mystery" is always so creative and funny you can't help but be tickled. I think its a total shame ABC is cutting this cute show from tv. Highly recommend watching. I, myself, have shared the first season with several friends as well as with my family all to positive reviews. After watching this show it is hard to walk away with out the "feel goods."

A lament for one of TV's all time greatest shows - gone too soon
PUSHING DAISIES is no longer a part of the ABC schedule.

Even though Amazon often makes it possible to review shows before the season has ended, I make it a personal policy to never write a review until the season has ended. I'm making an exception for Season Two of PUSHING DAISIES simply because we don't know when or if ABC will air the final three episodes. There is talk that they might show the last three episodes in a single night, but possibly as late as sometime during the summer of 2009. Possibly not at all.

Time was when ABC was one of my favorite networks. Along with NBC, I watched more of their series than any other network. CBS has not had any shows that have interested me in a couple of decades and has become the network most opposed to Quality Television (a technical term for shows with specific qualities, none of which are possessed by CBS's entire schedule). FOX has done some interesting shows, but such a huge percentage of them have been cancelled...

Come the Apokolips
This is the last volume of Superman: The Animated Series, and includes the last 18 episodes of the show's 54-episode run. It's scheduled to release alongside a slew of Superman-related shows and movie tie-ins, including Justice League season 2 and a new direct-to-video movie featuring Brainiac. This is also the set fans have been waiting for.

Roughly speaking, volume 3 can be divided into thirds. The first third of the set are your typical self-contained Superman stories. We get the introduction of Maxima the warrior queen and Volcana (Peri Gilpin of Frasier). Toyman, Mxy, Bizzaro, and Jax-Ur and Mala return. There is an odd episode involving an alien menace in Smallville, and a dud spotlighting Jimmy Olsen.

The next third are team-up episodes. Superman meets Aquaman and Green Lantern (the Kyle Rayner version) for the first time, and teams up with Batman again to fight Ra's Al Ghul. The Legion of Superheroes help young Clark Kent fight Brainiac in Smallville, and...

With the upcoming release of Superman Returns, we of course are being treated to a wealth of Superman related DVD's such as the Justice League sets, the old George Reeves set, Dean Cain, a documentary, even Krypto the Wonder Dog is purchasable. Well with it comes a great addition: the third and last volume in the Superman Animated Series set which features some great episodes including some teamups and an all-and-out brawl with Apokolips and Darkseid.

Disc I:

Warrior Queen: It's decent. A stuck-up ruler gets turned on by Superman and wants him for a husband, only his refusal doesn't exactly make her nice. 7.5/10

Apokolips...Now!: Darkseid is planning to assault Earth and a new addition decides to help Superman. 9/10

Apokolips...Now! Part II: It's war as Earth/Superman and Apokolips' warriors go head to head which results in a shocking end to a character. 9.5/10

Founders' Day [HD]

The day isn't over yet
In most sci-fi shows, time travel is usually just a one-off deal that never has any lasting repercussions. But it forms the centerpiece of "Eureka Season 4.0," in which a single jaunt back in time causes sweeping changes for the citizens of Eureka -- it sounds like a cheap way of shaking things up, but the focus on what time travel has changed is pretty interesting.

Carter (Colin Ferguson) is out jogging on Founder's Day when he suddenly goes back in time to the year 1947, along with Allison (Salli Richardson-Whitfield), Jo (Erica Cerra), Henry (Joe Morton) and Fargo (Neil Grayston). With the assistance of scientist Trevor Grant (James Callis), and are able to get back to present-day Eureka.

But... some things have changed. Jo is the security chief of Global Dynamics and never dated Zane, Kevin is not autistic, Andy the robot is Carter's new deputy, Henry is married to a woman he doesn't know, and Fargo is now the director of Global Dynamics. Oh yes, and Grant...

Not Incomplete - Just Poorly Designed Title Menu
Many of the reviews state that this set is incomplete. It's not, but the title menu setup is terrible. When I first watched the set, I thought - like most reviewers - that there were only three episodes on the first disc (the first episode plus an extended version of the first episode, as well as episode two). From there, I moved on to the second disc, which contained only three episodes at first glance. So I watched those three after the first disc. Great? Not great. As it turns out, there were two more episodes on the first disc that you can access by either a) watching "Play All" rather than going to the episode index or b) finding the right arrow next to the first three episodes on the index that will take you to the remaining episodes on the disc. The arrow is not at all obvious against the photo image background of the episode index, as evidenced by the fact that most of us seem to have missed it. Now I'm forced to go back and watch the episodes out of order even though...

Eureka Season 4.0
As with previous releases, Eureka packages the season in a different, more "Eco Friendly" manner. This half-season comes on 2 Discs. Here are the episodes:

I do not agree with the extended version of "Founder's Day" being counted as another episode, and also note that the "O Little Town" Christmas special is missing. It might end up on the Season 4.5 set, but it is not on the discs I got (that I could find).

The last episode listed as "13.1 - Cross-Over Episode" is actually a Warehouse 13 episode...

The Office: Season Six

The End of Dunder Mifflin
For several years, The Office was easily the funniest and best written comedy on television. Its hard to pinpoint which season is the pinnacle of the series, it may be a tie between seasons 2, 3, 4, and 5. Every one of them is tremendous. Considering season one was barely half of a season, The Office was still fairly young heading into its 6th year, so it was reasonable for fans to expect the same level of high quality comedy we'd been enjoying since the show's inception. Tragically this isn't exactly the case with #6. The season begins with a very promising start that maintains both the energy and the quality of the previous seasons. In fact the entire first half of the season is, for the most part, very well done... but eventually season six dissolves into a mix of mediocre and sometimes, painfully bad episodes (the finale being one of the worst eps in series history).

No Halloween open?
I just want to express how ripped off I feel that after buying the entire season 6 of The Office the Halloween open is missing from the episode Koi Pond. I hope that NBC and the creators/actors of The Office read this and realize how they are making their fans feel ripped off. If they were going to remove it from the episode, they should have included it in the deleted scenes. To make matters worse they included a still pic on the menu of Disc 2 just to remind us what we're missing. I tried to see if maybe it was hidden as an Easter Egg but have had no luck. Perhaps if everyone expressed how disappointed they were, Universal will create replacement discs. We are paying for the ENTIRE season of The Office including DELETED and BONUS material. I hate it when organizations complain and get "offended" by things thereby making it impossible for everyone else in the world to enjoy it. I don't care if the American Society for Suicide Prevention was offended by a FICTIONAL character...

Why You Shouldn't Buy This (even if it's still hilarious)
This is another solid season of the The Office, full of great humor. That being said, there's a big reason to save your money here.

NBC decided to cut the cold open from the episode "Koi Pond" for no clear reason. The opening, the halloween haunted warehouse, was probably the funniest of the season. Yet for whatever reason it has been removed from the episode on the disc - even though a clip from halloween is shown on the menu disc. You can actually still stream it the opening in question right on the NBC website. Whether it's backwards censorship or an oversight in the product creation, it's a BIG problem.

Don't buy this - if sales are down for the 6th season dvd/blu ray then maybe they'll include it down the road for a purchase that's actually worth paying for.

Psych -- A Super Fantastic Show!
Psych has about four million viewers each week on the USA network. For some reason, however, the program hasn't become the cultural institution it deserves to be, especially amongst young people. I suspect that in time this will all be amended: when the wheat is separated from the chaff, Psych will always come out on top.

The narrative format of Psych is conventional, and the production design is generic. Even so, every week Franks, Roday, et al., manage to draw water from a stone with an incredible cast, a quick humor, and a bright sincerity. Within a comedy television landscape dominated by irony, sarcasm, banality, sadism, and satire -- Psych goes to show that it is still humor which effects the most authentic laughter of all.

The rapport between Shawn Spencer (James Roday) and his Watson, the "super-sniffer" Burton Guster (Dulé Hill), is without precedent in television: I defy anyone to name a comedic duo with better chemistry. Roday's timing is...

Psych is one of my fav shows, this season is weird
I think they have new writers or something. This season seems all over the board. They seem to move a little quicker and in a less coherent manner. I have been a fan for years and will keep watching, but I hope they bring back the old style.

Great As Always
Psych never disappoints and season seven is off to a great start.Glad to hear that they got picked up for an 8th season already they deserve it the cast is just perfect and like always you can't make it through five minutes of any episode of this show without laughing. Highly recommend!!!
